SHINING “Blackjazz”
Ever since Jørgen Munkeby’s Shining released their now classic Blackjazz album back in 2010, it has continued to spread like a mechanical reptile slithering itself into one adventurous mind after another, bursting every brain synapse on its way. Even ten years after its release, Rolling Stone Magazine called Shining’s rendition “the ultimate remake” of the King Crimson classic “21st Century Schizoid Man”.
Munkeby comments: “I am humbled to see that Blackjazz is still turning heads and warming hearts. My intention with this record was to break down musical barriers and for the album to be remembered, and it looks like it has succeeded in both tasks! I can’t wait to celebrate raw musical rebelliousness and pure life energy with you all on this Blackjazz tour!”
The explosive beast called Blackjazz made heads turn and minds explode all around the world when it was released in 2010. It had successfully merged two until then separate musical genres – free jazz and blackened industrial metal – and created unholy musical alchemy never heard before. Pitchfork picked up their jaw from the floor, The New York Times wrote “A study in co-ordinated whiplash”, and Decibel Magazine said “Shining are one of the most innovative bands of the last decade”.
