Far from Alaska is a Brazilian rock band formed in 2012 in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, and based in São Paulo, São Paulo.
UNLIKELY(adjective) 1. not likely to happen, be done, or be true; improbable:
This is the best adjective to describe the band Far Form Alaska. No one could suspect that from Natal, Rio Grande Do Norte state, Brazil, a city known for it’s tropical beaches with white sand and warm sea, the five members Emmily Barreto (vocals), Cris Botarelli (Steel Guitar, Synths and vocals), Rafael Brasil (guitars), Edu Filgueira (bass) e Lauro Kirsch (drums) would put together a rock band with queer sound that is suprising everyone wherever they pass. Heavy riffs, female vocals and lyrics in English once were very unlikely to succeed where they came from, but today they are one of the main bands in Brazil.
In 2013 FFA submitted their songs to a contest to play as opening act on a big music festival in named “Planeta Terra” they won the contest and played at the festival, it was their very first gig. Shirley Manson from Garbage (one of the headliners of the festival) saw their performance and made a post about FFA on Twitter and suddenly everyone was talking about them which led them to a record deal for their first album named “modeHuman”.
“modeHuman” was elected as one of the top 10 albuns of 2014 by Rolling Stone Brasil, received the best possible reviews by the entire press. In 2016 FFA was selected for the Spotify Spotlight program which picks the 10 of most promising artists of the year in each territory.
Since the release of the album the band toured all over Brazil, with more than 200 gigs done in 2 years, including most of the main Music festivals Like Lollapalloza, Porão do Rock, João Rock, Planeta Terra, MADA, Dosol, and the recent Maximus Festival in São Paulo.
Internationally, the band gave its first steps ins 2016 being the main Brazilian artist at the SXSW 2016 in Austin, TX. In June 2016 the band performed at the 50th MIDEM in Cannes France and was honored with the “We are the Future” award at the MIDEM Awards as breakthrough artist, being chosen among more the 500 artists from all over the world. The success of the Midem performance called attention from Live Nation France and led the band to open the main stage of the Download Festival in Paris 2017 which took place in june 10th , they received very good reviews for their performance the French newspaper Le Fígaro (check here) and with maximum rating on Kerrang! magazine.
Far From Alaska just finished their second album produced and recorded by Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, etc.) in her own studio in Ashland Oregon (USA). The album is entitled “Unlikely” and it is out now on all streaming services.

The latest Single:
"For a new band to deliver one record of the year is pretty commendable and rare, but three albums in three years of which two are included in our best of year list is pretty remarkable." - Shakenstir
"I am converted. The dynamic between guitarist/vocalist Michael Edward and bassist Hannah Lodge is electric, and when Edward thrusts his guitar into the hands of the crowd, falls to his knees and just screams while they flail away, you can't help but love it." - Bido Lito
"With their prog-like precision and constant genre hopping (which isn’t a case of awkwardly trying their hand at different genres until one clumsily fits; Every stylistic u-turn is fiendishly innovative and inescapably engaging) it’s no wonder the experimental DIY approach they apply to every aspect of their work, works so god damn well." - Gigslutz
"Elevant have made a revealing album that is raw and honest and open about the darkest parts of society and humanity." - Artrocker
"The three-piece more than possess the chops to convince, with the trio sounding far vaster than the sum of their parts. Anchored by Tom Shand’s pummelling Bonham-esque beats and Hannah Lodge’s interlocking bassline weaves, lead singer Michael Edward’s lung bursting Chris Cornell-style lead vocals and bludgeoning guitar work make the record sound like the work of a six-piece." - Bearded Magazine
Delinquents among you We are not here to delight But to bring you the giants with ambient eyes And with every sadistic psychedelic intention We call you to travel to different dimensions Lay in this expansion Let it turn you to light Let your sentience simmer with electric insight Every crime is a theft Every sound an uprise Every message we we give you we have learnt from a lie
